Global Product Compliance in 2026: Why We Won The Pitch by Deel

Global product compliance in 2026: the wave is here, and we just won The Pitch by Deel.

Every physical product sold across borders faces more than a hundred regulations — spanning R&D, manufacturing, labelling, and customs. Here’s how we’re automating global product compliance with a multi-agent AI pipeline, and why winning Deel’s pitch competition validates exactly what we’re building.

Last Monday, we walked on stage at Station F with two minutes on the clock to convince a jury. We walked off with the regional trophy for The Pitch by Deel.

That feels significant. Not because of the trophy itself — but because of who gave it to us. Deel has built one of the most consequential B2B products of the last decade by solving a problem every globally-scaling company runs into: the regulatory complexity of employment, country by country. Their conviction is that global operations should not require global teams of specialists.

That conviction is exactly what we’re extending into a new domain.

Deel automated global payroll. We’re automating global product compliance.

What global product compliance actually looks like

If you’ve never had to bring a physical product to market internationally, the scale of the problem is almost unimaginable. Most people — even inside tech — assume compliance is a back-office concern that kicks in right before launch. The reality is that every product sold across borders is regulated from the moment it’s sketched until long after it leaves the warehouse.

Take a single product — a connected bike helmet, say. For that one SKU, more than a hundred regulations apply.

HS codes, duties, bans

It starts in R&D — before there’s a prototype

You don’t even have a working product yet, and you already need to know which textile, chemical, and materials regulations govern what you can use. PFAS restrictions, REACH declarations, CE directives, battery rules — all of it constrains the design space.

Then manufacturing, where the geography of regulation explodes

The materials you can legally use in France aren’t the same as in Japan, which aren’t the same as Brazil. Different certifications mean different lab tests, different timelines, and different costs.

Then labelling — country by country, language by language

Right warnings, right pictograms, right mandatory statements, correct language for each market. Miss one and you don’t sell.

And finally customs

HS codes, duty rates, sanctions lists, import licenses. The last hurdle before your product reaches the shelf — and the one where the most product launches get stuck.

It never stops. Regulations update constantly. And when you sell globally, every rule changes from one country to the next.

A multi-agent AI pipeline for product compliance

Cleo handles all of that. One platform, one interface — a full compliance map generated for any product, covering every stage and every market it needs to reach.

Under the hood is MARIA, our proprietary multi-agent AI pipeline. MARIA scans over 19,000 regulatory authorities across 106 countries, indexing and structuring the legal corpus at a scale no team of lawyers could match manually. Every output passes through human-in-the-loop validation by legal experts before it reaches a client. This isn’t a chatbot giving you a guess — this is AI precision, verified by legal expertise.

Why a multi-agent architecture matters

Product compliance isn’t one problem — it’s dozens of overlapping specialized problems. Textile regulation has different primitives than electronics regulation. Customs classification has nothing in common with labelling compliance. A single LLM asked to handle everything produces shallow, unreliable answers.

MARIA splits the work across specialized agents — each optimized for a specific regulatory domain — and orchestrates them into a single coherent output. The result: deep, accurate, auditable compliance intelligence. Not a summary. A map.

Old way

Weeks of legal research. Tens of thousands in outside counsel fees. Outdated by the time it’s delivered.

With Cleo

A full compliance map in hours. Continuously updated. Audit-ready. Delivered in the language your team already works in.

RegTech’s blue ocean: physical goods

Here’s the market reality that makes this moment so unusual. The RegTech sector is projected to grow from roughly $24B to over $112B by 2033. And today, 95% of that market serves financial services. Virtually every AI-native RegTech player you’ve heard of is built for banks, insurers, and law firms.

Meanwhile, the world’s largest economic sector by volume — physical goods — has essentially no AI-native compliance infrastructure. Retail, industrial manufacturing, consumer electronics, apparel, cosmetics, toys, medical devices, household goods: trillions of dollars in annual commerce, governed by a patchwork of legacy tools, Excel spreadsheets, and overworked legal teams. That’s the category we’re building. Not another compliance tool for finance. The compliance platform for physical goods.

Why 2026 is the inflection point

If the problem has always existed, why now? Two forces are converging. First, European regulation is accelerating — the CSRD, the AI Act, ESPR, extended producer responsibility rules, and dozens of sector-specific frameworks are expanding the compliance surface every year.

Second, by 2030, every product sold in Europe will need a Digital Product Passport: a structured, machine-readable record of the product’s composition, origin, environmental footprint, and regulatory status.

The wave is here. The time is now.

Why the Deel win matters

Pitch competitions are often noise. This one wasn’t. Winning The Pitch by Deel is meaningful because it comes from an organization that has already lived — and solved — the problem we’re attacking, in a different domain.

Deel proved that the "you need local specialists in every country" assumption could be broken with the right product. That’s the same assumption we’re breaking for product regulation. When the team that built the playbook validates the angle, you pay attention.
