# Educational example: EU mandate scope

**Fictional — no customer file and no signed mandate.** Scoping aid, not a contract ready for use without legal adaptation. Hypothetical product: desk lamp from a non-Union manufacturer; hypothetical representative established in the Union, with no actual identity or address.

| Clause to define | Proposed scope, not accepted |
| --- | --- |
| Products and markets | Models and versions expressly listed; Union market; start date, duration and termination to agree. |
| Legal basis | Check the legislation applicable to the product and the tasks the mandate must cover. |
| Documents | Verify that required declarations and documentation have been drawn up; keep the declaration available and ensure access to technical documentation under applicable obligations. |
| Authorities | Answer reasoned requests, inform authorities of risks and cooperate on corrective action within the legal and written scope. |
| Contact details | Define required information and where it appears after checking the accepted role and product scope. |
| Limits | No automatic declaration signature and no general power to import or certify. The manufacturer’s own obligations remain. |
| Acceptance | Agree tasks, document access, contacts and signatures before the mandate takes effect. |

A representative is not automatically the importer or the responsible person under every regime. The mandate must cover legally required tasks; it cannot extend authority without agreement or exclude mandatory obligations.
