# Educational example: CE technical file contents

**Fictional — no customer file and no validated conformity.** Hypothetical product: electric desk lamp. Adapt these contents to the applicable legislation and assessment procedure; this file does not certify the product.

- Model identification, intended use, manufacturer and covered versions: to complete.
- Characteristics, drawings, components and bill of materials: manufacturer to supply.
- Applicable legislation with scope justification; standards used: to confirm.
- Risk analysis and means of meeting requirements: to prepare.
- Conformity evidence, calculations and relevant test reports: to gather according to the procedure.
- Labels, marking and instructions: drafts to review in the required languages.
- Draft EU declaration of conformity: unsigned; an authorised signatory signs after conformity has been demonstrated.
- Version control and retention: check the period under each applicable text.

CE marking applies only where legislation provides for it. REACH alone does not trigger CE marking. A notified body or external laboratory is not compulsory for every category: check the applicable procedure. The manufacturer remains responsible for conformity.
